About the Products
KRS products are made in the USA in a facility that meets all FDA requirements.
We produce all of our serums in small batches, and ship them directly to our clients — rather than fulfilling through a warehouse where we cannot control the storage environment.
All KRS products are paraben free. Our formulas are also free of harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances, dyes and useless fillers.
Definitely not. And we use ingredients that would under no circumstances be tested on animals at any time during the production process.
We proudly display the cruelty free logo on our website.

What color is the Vitamin C Serum?
The yellow/amber color of our Vitamin C Serums (both Daytime and Night Formulations) is derived from a host of additional nutritive ingredients. Vitamin C is just the beginning of the nutrition in our Vitamin C Serums. We believe that no single ingredient can provide all the nutrients our skin needs for clarity, radiance, anti-bacterial and antioxidant protection, moisture balance and healthy regeneration. Keeping with that philosophy, our “C Serums” contain 22 beneficial, active ingredients, in addition to Vitamin C! KRS Vitamin C Serums are so much more than “just a C Serum” – they are super serums for your skin! If you research ingredients in other brands, including some of the most exclusive and expensive, you will find KRS Vitamin C Serums provide tremendous value/benefits for your skincare purchase. We select our ingredients based on the results they provide.
Kate Ryan Skincare uses three, very stable forms of Vitamin C, beginning with Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate at 20% concentration. It’s a costly ingredient, which is why it’s hard to find in skincare products. We use it because of its stability (longer shelf life without oxidation) and the fact that it is oil soluble, which makes it excellent at penetrating deep into skin layers. Many other forms of Vitamin C impact the surface skin only. The real work in skin repair and anti-aging happens beneath the surface; most notably collagen building and cell repair. The other forms of Vitamin C that you will find in KRS serums are Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Ascorbyl Palmitate — also stable forms of Vitamin C Ester, with potent antioxidant protection.
Many Vitamin C Serums are clear or nearly so in color because they contain Vitamin C and few other ingredients. The beautiful amber color of our serum comes from some of these very beneficial active ingredients:
Phloretin, a flavonoid, is responsible in part for the antioxidant activity of apples. Phloretin is light orange in color.
Lycopene, a potent antioxidant, is especially beneficial for protecting the skin from free radical damage caused by UV exposure. Lycopene is naturally very dark reddish/orange.
Green Tea EGCG is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals. Green Tea is brownish in color.
Tetrahydrocurcuminoids are potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatory. They are excellent for improving hyperpigmentation. This ingredient is yellow in color.
How do I know if the Vitamin C Serum that I order from KRS is fresh and what is the shelf life?
We produce all of our serums in small batches, and ship directly to our clients — rather than outsourcing to a warehouse where we cannot control the storage environment or the fulfillment. Every KRS product is clearly labeled with a batch number and expiration date.
We suggest that our Vitamin C Serum be used consistently for best results. When used consistently, once per day, and stored properly (store in a cool, dark place), the serum will remain stable and effective for the entire shelf life. Due to the green tea in this product (a very beneficial antioxidant) the serum may darken over time. The color change does not indicate the product is going bad, and does not impact the performance or effectiveness. It is just a color change. We recommend using or discarding by the expiration date noted on the label. With daily use, your 0.5 oz. bottle will be depleted well within that timeframe.
Can I use KRS Vitamin C Serums if I have Sensitive Skin?
Many Vitamin C Serums have a lower, more acidic pH which can be irritating to the skin (the lower pH can also be beneficial for exfoliation but this product is not designed for the purpose of exfoliation). The slightly higher pH of our formula is much less likely to irritate sensitive skin. However, this formula contains many, many powerful actives and Vitamin C at up to 20% concentration; if you have sensitive skin, we recommend testing for sensitivity on a small area on the inside of your arm first. We also suggest introducing this serum to your skin slowly, every other day or even every third day. Gradually increase application to daily or even twice daily as your skin tolerates. If you have any concern that your skin is not reacting well to the product, discontinue use.
The first thing we like to assure all of our clients is that there is no right or wrong way to use serums. The most important consideration for noticeable results is to use them every day and not over apply, especially under makeup.
As a general rule of thumb, the thinner formulas absorb best when applied first, followed by thicker (more gel-like) serums, oil-based serums, then creams.
With your first order, you will receive product information cards with directions for use and other helpful information. Our Product Guide provides even more detailed information and can always be accessed here.
Some of the many differences between Kate Ryan Skincare and other skin care products are the quantity of active ingredients in each of our formulas, the potency, and the freshness of our ingredients. Our products are not designed for lengthy chains of distribution, warehouse storage, and multi-year shelf life.
Our promise to each of our customers is fresh, real ingredients that provide noticeable results, while using a minimum of preservatives. We produce our products in small batches in an FDA compliant laboratory and ship directly to you.
We refrigerate all of our products until shipped. Just as with the food you eat, the fresher the product, the higher the nutritional benefit for your skin.
We want you to get the best results, which is why we customize each of our product labels with a suggested expiration date. Our recommended shelf life is relatively short, around 6 months for most products.
When we set expiration dates for our products, we always take into consideration the different ways customers store and use them. When stored properly (in a cool place, out of direct sunlight), the products will maintain their effectiveness for a considerable time after the expiration date. As a best-case example, if you purchase extra product during one of our sales, and store your extra containers in the refrigerator, you will extend the shelf life by 3-4 months.
The size and type of our containers and method of dispensing also take freshness into consideration. When used regularly, your products should be depleted well before the suggested expiration date. Consistent use of the products provides the best results – your skin responds best when nourished daily.
Refrigeration is not required, but we do recommend storing your products in a cool, dark place to preserve the potency of the active ingredients.
We suggest using the products consistently for noticeable improvements in about three months. However, many of our clients tell us their skin looks and feels healthier within the first few days. The power of excellent nutrition in our Vitamin C Serums and the firming effect of our DMAE Serum manifest much more quickly in skin radiance and tone.
We have suggested regimens on our website based on the skin concerns our clients most frequently raise. The product packages and usage instructions take the guesswork out of knowing which products are best for a particular skin type or condition. Products in the collections can be purchased individually as well.

We’re always happy to help!
Our products have not been tested on women who are pregnant or nursing. We always recommend that you consult with your physician before using any topical product during pregnancy or lactation. We recommend avoiding any products containing Vitamin A or its derivatives (Retinoids) while pregnant.
If you are under the care of a dermatologist, and especially if you are taking prescription medication for a skin condition, wait until the condition has resolved completely and you have been released from treatment before using any of our products.
If you use the professional services of an aesthetician, our philosophy is that clients achieve optimum skincare results when they combine a program of regular professional care with a consistent at-home skincare regimen. We believe that using quality skincare actives at home extends the beneficial effects of professional treatments. As a word of caution, all KRS Serums are formulated at high potencies to produce the maximum benefits for your skin. If you have just had a chemical peel, or if your skin is irritated for any reason, do not use our products until sensitivity has resolved completely.
